Paccar is recalling over 76,000 vehicles involving certain 2022-2023 Kenworth and Peterbilt models because of a software issue that leaves trucks out of FMCSA compliance.
A digital display may freeze and not display critical information, according to an Oct. 21 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration letter. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 16.
Dealers are updating the software for free, and 7,649 vehicles — 1% of the recall — are estimated to have the defect, according to the recall report.

The defect can mean vehicles don’t comply with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s “Control and Display” and “Transmission shift lever sequence, starter interlock, and transmission braking effect” regulations, according to the letter.
This isn’t the first sizable recall for Paccar this year. In August, NHTSA announced a recall involving over 47,000 trucks due to steering gears that could fracture, potentially causing a loss of steering control.
