AiLogistics ordered 100 Nikola hydrogen fuel cell EV trucks for its drayage operations in San Pedro Bay, California, the companies announced during the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in Las Vegas last week.
AiLogistics, or “AiLo,” a rebrand of a group of carriers including MDB Transportation, expects the Nikola TRE FCEV trucks to be delivered next year.
Nikola has begun delivering AiLogistics’ previous order of 50 FCEV trucks. Each boasts a 500-mile range and 536 continuous horsepower. The truck’s powertrain features a 200 kW fuel cell power module, with a pair of battery packs providing another 164 kWh of energy.
“This strategic move to incorporate Nikola FCEVs into our operations reaffirms our commitment to environmental stewardship and underscores our proactive approach toward embracing cutting-edge technologies,” Jack Khudikyan, AiLogistics CEO, said in the announcement.
The company’s follow-up order — doubling down, no less — is “an honor for our organization and a testament to their drive to make a difference,” said Ryan Clayton, Nikola global head of sales, in the announcement.
“Nikola trucks are on the road today, and the biggest test of our trucks is measured by our customers and their repeat orders,” Clayton said.
Zero-emission truck adoption is being spurred on by state and federal environmental regulators. The California Air Resources Board and Environmental Protection Agency have issued stringent rules requiring carriers and OEMs to lower emissions in the coming years.
