Navistar is recalling nearly 45,000 trucks, warning a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning blower motor circuit can ignite.

The recall affects mostly 2016–2020 International DuraStar and WorkStar trucks. It also includes certain 2017–2018 International TranStar, 2018 International ProStar and 2020 International HV and MV trucks as well as a commercial bus.

The recall is due to a circuit that may have an insufficient wiring terminal and can overheat, according to an April 6 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice. According to a recall report, a supplier didn’t use a Navistar-specified wire terminal for the load circuit.

The issue came to light after a vehicle fire that affected a fuse panel and HVAC area, where damage was so extensive that a cause couldn’t be determined. Other incidents indicated melting in that area, according to a company report.

Dealers will replace the HVAC blower motor load circuit wiring terminal for free. Notification letters are slated to be mailed June 5.

Navistar said in a statement that it is committed to build the safest, most reliable vehicles on the road.
