Hyzon Motors is now ready to scale production of its 200 kilowatt fuel cell electric truck.
Following years of development, the heavy-duty hydrogen technology developer achieved start of production status for the equipment that embodies a more powerful iteration of its 110 kilowatt truck, the Illinois-based startup announced last week in a news release.
“Our Class 8 200kW FCET is the culmination of years of engineering, and today we are proud to announce it has evolved from a prototype to a vehicle ready for full production,” CEO Parker Meeks said in the announcement.
The company has been ratcheting up testing while also delivering equipment for customers to trial.
The new production phase is coupled with a partnership with Fontaine Modification to provide vehicle assembly and production in Charlotte, North Carolina, Hyzon said.
The achievement is a key step in commercial deployment to reach large fleet customers, Meeks previously noted in an earnings call last month. Hyzon launched in 2020.
Customers such as Performance Food Group have trialed the technology on routes. Testing even included a 500-plus mile route from Temple, Texas, to customers near Dallas in over 100-degree heat during a 16-hour continuous run, the companies said.
