Hyundai and autonomous software firm Plus have developed an electric AV.
The companies are adding self-driving capabilities to an existing truck that debuted in 2020, the Hyundai’s XCIENT Fuel Cell.
The truck has two 90-kilowatt hydrogen fuel cell systems, a 350-kilowatt electric motor and a driving range of over 450 miles per charge, per a release.
“A decarbonized future with autonomous hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks that also improve safety and efficiency is one that Plus is proud to support with our cutting-edge autonomous driving technology," said Plus COO and co-founder Shawn Kerrigan.
Testing of the truck is underway in the U.S. and adds to Plus’ foray into demonstrating the technology in places such as the San Antonio to Dallas corridor.
Plus, founded in 2016, has operations in the U.S., Europe and Australia.
Other companies have introduced a similar blend of the technologies, including Einride and Gatik, as well as Embark Technology before its demise.
