Groendyke Transport’s pending acquisition of Linden Bulk Transportation will help the family-owned company strengthen and expand its presence across multiple markets, President Joe Morrissey told Trucking Dive.
The hazmat and asphalt transportation provider is acquiring the tank truck assets, including staff, of New Jersey-based Linden Bulk Transportation, according to an Aug. 19 news release.
The new territory, which accounts for about 30% of the new business, will expand Groendyke’s footprint in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. It will also strengthen locations in the Gulf as well as markets in Chicago and St. Louis, Morrissey said Wednesday.
“Once the transaction closes, Groendyke will have terminals in 18 states, including its first presence in the Northeast since 2015,” the company said in the release.
The deal is expected to close by Sept. 23, according to the release. Morrissey said the acquisition process is still ongoing.
Groendyke’s transportation covers chemicals, refined fuels and industrial gases, and the deal is an extension of its chemical hauling business, Morrissey said. Both companies specialize in hauling petroleum products, chemicals and other hazardous materials, the news release noted.
Financial terms of the deal were not shared. Linden Bulk Transportation has 243 power units and 239 drivers, according to Federal Motor Safety Carrier Administration data from May.
Given Linden Bulk Transportation’s longstanding relationships with customers, Groendyke endeavors to earn those customers’ business, the company president said.
“Hopefully we'll bring the right kind of reputation and reliability that they've been accustomed to with Linden,” Morrissey said, noting that the carrier hopes to also develop further business with those relationships because of its ability to service deeper parts of the country.
Linden Bulk Transport was created in 1982 and is currently owned by Depot Connect International, a rebrand of Quala and Boasso Global, the latter of which acquired Linden Bulk Transportation in 2023.
Groendyke has around 1,100 employees, most of which are drivers.
