Diesel prices have piled on expenses for carriers this year, with fuel unseating driver shortage concerns as the top problem for the industry this year, according to the American Transportation Research Institute.
Another surge in prices is adding to trucking hardships. While monthly average diesel prices fell below $5 in September since peaking at $5.75 in June, October prices have been increasing. Weekly national diesel averages again surpassed $5 a gallon this month and reached $5.34, as of Monday.
