As broadband networks improve nationwide, companies are bringing more telematics to their fleets. That means improved real-time data on tractors, an increased ability to respond to issues and greater savings potential.
Businesses are already seeing the benefits of the technology. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. CEO Rich Kramer noted on the company's earnings call this month that the business expects growth in its sensor-equipped tires, which connect to a cloud-based system to monitor tire conditions. Meanwhile, Walmart upgraded its private fleet this year with improved geo-tracking technology, seeking to better communicate with workers about the timing of freight at its stores.
