Dive Brief:
- TravelCenters of America has partnered with payment technology company AtoB to accept the firm’s fleet fuel card at all of its travel centers nationwide, according to a recent announcement.
- The partnership means that AtoB users can receive a fuel discount of 42 cents per gallon on average every time they fill up on gas at a TA, TA Express or Petro Shopping Center. AtoB’s fleet fuel cards can also prevent fraud at the pump and enable custom controls for more efficient fleet management.
- Convenience retailers for years have worked to modernize their fuel payment options as some traditional methods have become prone to credit card skimming and fraud.
Dive Insight:
C-store operators such as RaceTrac, Sheetz, Rutter’s, Kwik Trip, Kum & Go, Yesway and Casey’s General Stores have all used AtoB’s platform in the past, according to the tech firm’s website. For TA, the shift represents another way for the company to improve its guest experience and better service its fleet customers and professional drivers, CEO Debi Boffa said in the announcement.
“AtoB is a platform that will save our customers time and money, and we are pleased to work with a company that is at the forefront of digitizing and modernizing the trucking industry,” Boffa said.
Beyond preventing fraud and improving fleet management, AtoB’s platform — notably through its mobile app — lets drivers see which nearest stations offer the best fuel prices and cost savings, according to the announcement. Members who are part of the AtoB perks program can also receive savings on tires and vehicle maintenance.
TA’s digitization of its fleet payments comes just a couple weeks after parent company BP named a new head of technology. Additionally, earlier this year, BP started rebranding TA forecourts to its own banner and revealed it’s in the process of updating its rewards program and mobile app.
