RK Logistics Group Holdings has acquired On Time Trucking, the company announced last week.
The Fremont, California-based third party logistics provider said the addition of the LTL and truckload specialist in Farmingdale, New York, expands its service network into New York City’s five boroughs, New Jersey and Long Island. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
It also positions the company to offer lithium-ion battery and material storage services on the East Coast, which has been a growth area for the company since 2014, according to the announcement.
“This is a highly strategic acquisition for RK that allows us to offer lithium-ion battery and material storage services to support our energy transition customers on the East Coast,” RK Logistics Group Holdings Chairman and CEO Joe Maclean said.
On Time Trucking’s founder, Daniel Leitgeb, will continue leading the business as president, according to the announcement.
His firm has a fleet of 15 tractors, 30 dry-van trailers and 32 straight (box) trucks, which are supported by about 100 employees, RK Logistics told Trucking Dive in an email. On Time Trucking also operates a 60,000-square-foot, 40-dock-door warehouse facility in Farmingdale, New York.
RK Logistics launched about 30 years ago and specialized in serving the high-tech, semiconductor and vehicle manufacturers in northern California.
It later expanded its logistics service offerings to include EV manufacturing, specifically lithium-ion battery warehousing and logistics.
In addition to its Long Island firm, which plants a flag on the East Coast, RK Logistics’ network includes California operations in Fremont, Hayward, Newark and Livermore as well as facilities in Ann Arbor, Michigan; Austin, Texas; and Phoenix, Arizona.
