PGT Trucking, a flatbed, dedicated, international and specialized services carrier, broke ground on a terminal in Laredo, Texas, the company announced Thursday.
The Western Pennsylvania-based carrier expects to move into the facility in Q1 2024.
PGT, which has operated in Laredo since 1995 and moves more than 4,000 cross-border loads per year, is growing its footprint in the Texas border city, which has enjoyed a recent logistics boom thanks to increasing nearshoring of supply chains to Mexico.
J.B. Hunt Transportation Holdings and autonomous trucking companies are among those who have flocked to the state to capture some of the growing business.
“We are excited for our expansion in Laredo, and support the continued development of this city and the surrounding areas," said Pat Gallagher, PGT Trucking CEO.
The carrier had previously been leasing a terminal in Laredo, but the 7.73-acre site is its first owned terminal there, a spokesperson said.
The facility will include a full-service operations center, modern driver amenities and a truck maintenance shop. More than 70 local drivers will be based at the terminal once it opens next year.
Laredo is one of PGT’s 10 primary service locations, and the carrier operates 19 more regional facilities, according to its website.
