Dive Brief:
- PGT Trucking expects to open two new terminals before the end of Q2, the company announced last week.
- A site in Laredo, Texas, will enhance the company’s cross-border segment, while the other in Ghent, Kentucky, will boost service to some of its largest customers, according to the announcement.
- The projects represent more than physical expansion, PGT VP of Sustainability Laurence Cox said in a statement. “It’s a commitment to fostering stronger connections, delivering efficiency and anticipating the needs of our customers,” he said.
Dive Insight:
PGT now operates 31 locations, including a site in Monterrey, Mexico. The new terminals are not just additional points on the map, but “hubs of innovation” and collaboration, Cox said.
The Aliquippa, Pennsylvania-based company announced its 7.73 acre, state-of-the-art Laredo terminal project in May. It supports its Southwest U.S. expansion where it has operated for more than two decades but now looks to capitalize on growing nearshoring efforts, which has lured a range of businesses from auto parts and home appliance manufacturers.
Site work is nearly completed on the Laredo site, which will be followed by installation of the steel superstructure before month’s end, Cox said. The building should be under roof by early February with the facility scheduled to be finished by mid-Q2, he said.
The Laredo facility will serve as a regional base for over 70 drivers and include a full-service operations center, modern driver amenities and a truck maintenance shop, the company said.
Site work on PGT’s 10.6-acre Ghent terminal is targeted for completion by the end of January, the company said. The pre-fab building is scheduled to be delivered by the end of February and begin operating by the end of March.
