Landstar System opened an Indiana facility with truck parking, laundry, showers, Wi-Fi and other amenities for owner-operators on their way to or from Indianapolis, the company announced last week.
The 8,000-square-foot operations center in Crawfordsville sits on 14 acres of property near Interstate 74, the company said.
“We continue to make investments that best serve our network of entrepreneurs, whether it’s a new field operations center like Crawfordsville or technology and mobility enhancements, so they can operate their businesses productively,” Landstar President and CEO Frank Lonegro said in the announcement.
The Crawfordsville site is one of a network of regional facilities for Landstar’s leased owner-operators in the U.S. and Canada. The facility, which opened with a ceremony on Nov. 15, includes classrooms, a conference room and a break room.
“These locations are designed and staffed so that Landstar’s independent owner-operators can easily connect with advisors, network with peers, and participate in continuous professional education to keep their businesses running smoothly,” Rocco Davanzo, Landstar Transportation Logistics EVP of capacity development, said in the announcement.
The operations center’s opening comes as the asset-light transportation provider’s owner-operator count is at yearslong lows. Owner-operator truck count at Landstar has sunk for 10 consecutive quarters amid a freight recession, and executives expect that decline to continue.
