J.B. Hunt Transport Services gave bonuses to dozens of company drivers who surpassed million-mile safe driving milestones, the company announced last week.
The Arkansas-based trucking giant awarded $770,000 in bonuses on May 1 to 54 drivers as part of its annual safe driving initiative.
This year’s honorees included the carrier’s third driver to reach five million miles and Jodi Edwards, a 2024 Women in Trucking Association’s Driver of the Year winner, who surpassed 2 million miles in January.
“These drivers are the champions of our safety culture,” Nick Hobbs, COO and president of dedicated contract services at J.B. Hunt, said in a statement. 2023 was a record year for safety at the company, he said, crediting the drivers for playing a major role in the achievement.
“Their million-mile achievements demonstrate an unwavering commitment to delivering long-term, exceptional value for our customers,” Hobbs said.
Since the company launched the million mile program in 1996, nearly 5,000 drivers have been recognized for achieving at least one million safe miles.
J.B. Hunt, which employs 24,000 drivers, said it takes a driver on average between seven and 10 years to reach the milestone.
J.B. Hunt has awarded more than $38 million in safety bonuses through the program. Bonuses start at $5,000 for reaching their first million miles and double for each million after that up to $50,000.
