Dive Brief:
- Estes Express Lines has reopened a pair of shuttered Yellow Corp. terminals in Minnesota and California, the carrier announced on LinkedIn.
- Estes acquired the leases to the sites in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and San Fernando, California, along with two dozen properties and three other leases in Yellow’s bankruptcy auction last year.
- The St. Cloud terminal provides a presence in the largest population center in central Minnesota, and the San Fernando facility is an upgrade from a smaller site Estes previously operated less than two miles away.
Dive Insight:
Estes is racing XPO, Saia and other carriers to renovate and reopen the terminals each company picked up in the largest bankruptcy in trucking history.
The St. Cloud terminal has 16 doors, nearly 5,200 square feet of dock space, and another 840 square feet of offices. The facility is located on a 5.3-acre site near Interstate 94 and Minnesota State Highway 23.
The San Fernando facility is much larger, with 66 doors and 19,250 square feet of dock space. The 9.4-acre site is near Interstate 5 and California State Route 118.
Estes’ other leased properties acquired at Yellow’s bankruptcy auction are in Tacoma, Washington; Sparks, Nevada; and Wichita, Kansas.
The carrier strategically acquired Yellow terminals near Canada to position itself to grow its cross-border shipping service, Estes Express Lines President and COO Webb Estes told Trucking Dive in February.
Estes’ terminal acquisitions from Yellow will add a combined 985 doors to its network, according to the company.
