Bison Transport’s longtime president and CEO, Rob Penner, will retire on Friday after 35 years with the carrier, the company announced.
Chief Administrative Officer Mike Ludwick will succeed Penner as interim president and CEO on June 1. Ludwick, who started with the company in 1997, already serves as president of Bison Transport USA.
“Rob helped navigate Bison Transport through periods of unparalleled change and growth, finishing his career with the successful transition of ownership from the Jessiman family to the Richardson family,” said Don Streuber, Bison’s executive chairman, in the announcement.
Ludwick described Penner as “an incredible leader in our business, industry, and community” in the announcement.
“With his guidance, I’m proud that we have built an incredible team who will carry this business into our next phase of growth,” Ludwick said.
The Winnipeg-based freight carrier’s fleet comprises 3,000 tractors and 10,000 trailers and containers.
Bison’s services reach well beyond Canada into the U.S. and Mexico. The carrier signed an intermodal deal with Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) in January to convert truckload freight to rail and capitalize on the recent trend of nearshoring.
