ArcBest Chief Commercial Officer Steven Leonard will retire in June, continuing a leadership transition at ABF Freight’s parent company, according to an announcement Thursday.
The longtime company leader will be succeeded by Eddie Sorg, COO of the company’s asset-light logistics division, according to an announcement and securities filing.
The retirement announcement included a shuffling of other ArcBest leadership, effective Feb. 1. Christopher Adkins, VP of yield strategy and management, will be promoted to chief strategy officer, taking over the role from Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer Dennis Anderson.
Anderson will retain the role of chief innovation officer, which he started this month following Michael Newcity’s retirement in December, according to Anderson’s LinkedIn. The moves are part of a changing of the guard that also included the promotion of former ABF Freight President Seth Runser to ArcBest president in August.
In the announcement, ArcBest CEO Judy McReynolds thanked Leonard, who is also the president of the company’s asset-light logistics, for his more than two decades in management.
“I am looking forward to working with our newly appointed leaders, many of whom are direct results of our robust leadership development programs,” McReynolds said.
ArcBest’s promotions of Sorg and Adkins reflect the two former pricing analysts’ success in executing its logistics and yield management strategy during a challenging two-year freight recession, as well as the priority the company has placed on the segments.
The company credited Sorg with instrumental leadership in implementing space-based pricing for LTL shipments, introducing dynamic LTL pricing and advancing pricing methodologies for managed solutions.
Adkins also contributed to ArcBest’s dynamic LTL pricing initiative and led the automation of volume price quotes and tractor detention charges, according to the company.
“We are confident ArcBest remains well positioned for the long-term,” McReynolds said.
