Resin distributor PolyQuest announced in late September that it was acquiring Baker Transportation in a deal that was expected to close by Oct. 1, according to a company press release.

The Lake City, South Carolina-based dry van, warehouse and expedited specialist will expand PolyQuest’s access to heavily traveled distribution routes as well as ports in the Southeastern U.S., the company said.

While Baker Transportation has a fleet of 40 tractors, PolyQuest CEO John Marinelli said in a statement that his Wilmington, North Carolina-based firm will continue buying services from its existing carrier network.

“The Baker acquisition promotes extreme flexibility in tailoring freight and logistics solutions for both PolyQuest’s and Baker Transportation’s current business partners,” he said.

PolyQuest provides resin products to the bottle, sheet, strapping, film, fiber, compounding and injection molding markets, according to the South Carolina Department of Commerce.

The acquisition is expected to create 25 new jobs, the state agency said.

Billy and Leila Baker started their trucking business in 1987. The Bakers, along with their sons Michael and Justin, will continue overseeing the trucking company’s operations, Marinelli said.
